I have a bad habit of buying lots of books and not finishing them. So I’m in the middle of four books right now. I’m not going to jump into any others until I finish some of these. But here they are:
- The Lost Message of Jesus by Steve Chalke
- Free Prize Inside by Seth Godin
- In A Pit With A Lion On A Snowy Day by Mark Batterson
- The Starfish And The Spider by Ori Brafman and Rod Beckstrom
All of these were recommended by someone or another except for the Free Prize book. And Seth Godin has been recommended before. But I had a gift card to Books A Million with me when I got that book…got to the counter and was ready to pay. Turns out the card had a ZERO balance on it.
Books-A-Million? I was told they only deduct $1.00 per year from unused gift cards. If you are there again, speak with a manager.
The old policy was that BAM deducted a certain amount per month from the card if it went unused after, I think, 18 months, but they’ve recently changed the policy so they never expire. They can check to see if the card balance was used or expired due to non-use; if the latter, the manager may be willing to get the balance added back to the card. No guarantees, of course, but it’s been known to happen.
Too late for any of that. I’m 3 hours away from that same store. And I gave them my “expired” card. So there’s no way to even prove a had a card, much less what was/wasn’t on it.
