Like I was saying....

Oh well.

After a lot of hype and expectations, it seems that MSU disappointed in the first round of the NCAA Tourney. To be honest, I was a little nervous when I saw that we were the 4th #5 seed to play, and the other three had already won. Law of averages, you know? But, yet another game we should have won…but didn’t.

Alread on some MSU message boards ignorant fans are calling for the head of Stansbury. They’re crazy. Maybe a few more assistants, a good X and O guy. But he’s a recruiter out of this world.

Anyway, we’ve got good talent coming back, good talent coming in, and there’s reason to be optimistic about next year. Now, on to College Baseball…I’m not even going to pretend my bracket predictions are worth a dern.

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood….or is it?

I woke up this morning, left the house at 6:30 to go pick up breakfast for my meeting…and got to wear shorts! Wow…the calendar still tells me it’s Winter, but it feels like Spring. The sun came on out, the temp continued to rise. I came home for lunch and my daughter was in a perfect mood that makes me smile all the time. The NCAA tourney started today, and my Bulldogs tipoff tomorrow evening on their quest for the NCAA Title. My wife mowed the yard. Can it get any better?

Well, I guess if there was no bombing going on. On one hand, it almost seems a detatched reality. I think we in the U.S. have gotten so used to seeing fighting and war and other stuff on the nightly news that some of this we’re seeing on the news now isn’t hitting home as hard as it should. It amazes me that folks in other countries are getting more stirred up about it than the majority of the folks here stateside.

As I type my daughter is trying to set up a tea party for the two of us. She has no clue about what is going on in the world (although she does say “bak-et-ball” when I’m watching the tourney) and I wonder how much she’ll learn about these current events in her history classes one day.

Strike One….

Seems that Bush saw an opportunity to take a chance at striking key Iraqi leadership and called an audible. What will this mean? No one really knows right now. It’s is somewhat reassuring that Bush has said he wants to be as surgical as possible in the strikes, to keep away from needless loss of life (how’s that for an oxymoron.) But the audible will means changes for what US leaders had initially planned to do.

After the initial news of strikes and Bush’s speech, I felt the best channel to watch for background info on the events was actually MTV and their MTV-News stories/opinion pieces.

In about 12 hours… what will happen?

It seems that Bush’s 48 hour time frame is 3/4 of the way complete. Will Saddam and his boys get out of town or will Bush send in his boys? I watched FoxNEWS a little last night and seeing people go back and forth about the war issue. Is it justified? Is it moral? Is is just GWB wanting to settle Daddy’s earlier dispute? Whatever it is, I think it will be a big mess.

I was eating lunch with family on Sunday when GWB came on television saying that something was probably going to happen soon. My 15 year old cousin was acting as if he was glad and ready for “us to go over there and kick some butt.” I guess it’s all the testosterone of puberty speaking. But after my uncles and I told him that it probably wouldn’t be over with in a “timely” fassion and that he could be drafted not to long from now…he changed his tune.

If/when we go to war, I hope we’d hit hard and strong so it’d be over quickly, but I really think it will be a much longer, drawn out conflict with some crappy stuff going on over here on American soil. Sheesh…I guess we’ll be watching the television all day now…

A #5 Seed

Well, after scaring Kensucky for a second time in two months, Mississippi State loses to Big Blue in the finals of the SEC Tournament. Are we good enough to have beaten them, I think so, but we didn’t..and we can’t make any excuses. Turns out we get a pretty good seeding in the NCAA tourney. A 5 seed isn’t so bad, unless you look to the fact that it’s the seed that’s upset the most. But the last time we were a number 5 seed (like this year), the Final Four was in New Orleans (like this year). So I hope history can repeat itself (except that we get to play UKy in the title game this time!

Go Dogs!

Here we go….

Well, I’d never even heard of a blog until I read this thread at Site Point Forums. Some looked okay, but some looked quite intriguing. I checked out Blogger and thought it was sorta cool, but thought the “bigger boys” of MovableType, GreyMatter, and b2 looked much better as a general rule. But they also looked a bugger to install. But later on I jumped back on the blogging wave as a result of a thread on the YS mailing list. After deciding to go with Moveable Type over (very strong looking) newcomer pMachine…here we are.

What sort of voice will the blog have? Will it focus on specific things, or anything goes? How personal will it be? Well, it’s still little more than an embryo…so it has lots of growing and maturing to do before it develops a recognizable personality. I hope you hang around with me to see how things go.
