My Political Compess

I may have done this a long while back, can’t remember. But I took the test again. Here’s where I reside (according to this test):

Your political compass
Economic Left/Right: -1.88
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 0.26

Not really sure what it all means…other than I’m pretty much in the middle of everything. Some questions I wanted a “No Opinion” option. But it wasn’t there.

You can take the test here.

Migrane

No, I don’t have a migraine, but I noticed a post over on Kevin’s blog about him having one. I know where he’s coming from. I use to have them at least once a week when I was a kid. From around Kindergarten to around early middle school I seemed to get them about once a week at a minimum. Man, they sucked.

I hated telling the teachers I had a headache. They thought I was like most of the kids and faking, wanting to go home or get out of work. They’d tell me, “Blake, my head hurts too. It’s been a long day. Just go back and sit at your desk and sit quietly.” So I’d walk my droopy self back to the desk and put my head down, waiting for the sudden goosh of saliva to fill my mouth telling me I was about to show her that I needed to call my mom.

It only took a few times. Before long they started letting me call my mom when I told them that. I guess they figured out it was easier to send me to the office to call her rather than having to look at that day’s partially digested cafeteria food splattered across the classroom carpet.

But I got a headache every day we had either hotdogs or hamburgers. Turns out the hotdogs were pumped with red food dye, that set me off. And the hamburgers were soybean burgers (not real meat) so I wouldn’t eat them…and not eating set me off on a migraine too. Chocolate would sometimes give me a headache too…and I LOVED chocolate…I mean LOVE.

Mom would come get me, strip me of my clothes, put me in bed and I’d have to try and sleep it off. I couldn’t eat because I’d throw it right back up. Man, those days were horrible. Thankfully I don’t have them anymore. Sometimes I’ll get a headache now and then, but not on a migraine level.

This weekend for the Bulldogs

Here’s a quote from Croom in today’s paper. Hopefully it will come true.

“They’ve been through a lot,” Bulldogs coach Sylvester Croom said. “It’s time to go home, see their mommas, get a good meal, see their girlfriends and they can all tell them how great they are.”

And then?

“They can all come back and play like it,” Croom said.

Um, probably Ale 8 when I was in Kentucky.

U.S. Soldier weds his Iraqi love

A U.S. soldier over in the Middle East marries an Iraqi woman he fell in love with. The entire story is linked below, but here are a few quotes from it.

Robert Hall, 23, says he knew within a month that he would marry Vivian Mansour, 21, of Baghdad, even though at first neither spoke a word of each other’s language.

For them, cultural differences are offset by a shared Christian faith. Mansour is a Kurdish Christian — a population that makes up just 3 percent of Iraq’s 24 million people.

“It’s such a learning experience,” Hall said. “Our cultures are different, but the way we look at it is, we’re both children of God.”

Mansour’s English is still a work in progress, but she knows what attracted her to Hall.

“Heart first,” she said, pointing to her chest.

Friday's Feast 8.20.04

I’m nearly complete with my paper. Now I need to read, proof, and correct, email it to my prof. So I’ll give myself a little time for the Friday’s Feast.

Appetizer
What does the color pink make you think of?
The Kid. She told me it was her favorite color yesterday. Of course it changes all the time, but that what it is at the moment.

Soup
Name something you have lost but later found.
My keys. I lose them every day. But I find them everyday too. Frustrating. Something is usually placed on top of them or something.

Salad
In 3 words, describe this past week.
procrastinate, paper, writing

Main Course
What are you obsessed with?
Ooh…good question. I’m supposed to say God or my wife or something right?

Dessert
What kind of perfume or cologne do you like to wear?
I wear either Woods by Abercrombi (don’t think they make it anymore) or Curve. But it’s because that’s what my wife bought me and it does okay for me. I used to like Obsession a lot, but The Wife doesn’t. But it was a deep, woody, spicy smell.

The Olympics

I’m enjoying the Olympics. I really am. But as I sat and watched (instead of writing a paper) I realized that there’s only one time every four years that I’m even remotely interested in men’s gymnastics or swimming.
