What do you do after studying?

I’ve been looking around at some alternatives to YouTube. YouTube is the most popular video sharing site out there. That’s more than obvious. But there are better, but less used, ones out there. Two that really catch my eye are Vimeo and Viddler. One of the things that Vimeo is known for are their lipdubs. That’s where someone lipsyncs to a song. Then relays the audio over it for a much fuller sound.

I found one that is HUGE. It’s one big, continuous shot. It is filmed at a German university. It is all in the same class building. And has tons of students and a few professors in it. It’s worth a watch for sure. Enjoy!

Let me know how you liked it!

Two Cover Tuesday 2

Back for week Two!

If you like Ben Folds, then this is a great impromptu version of possibly The Postal Service’s most famous song.

I used to LOVE this version. Used to sing it all raspy and angrily when I’d mow my lawn w/ my Walkman in. “Knock knock knocking on heaven’s door. Hay Hay hay-hay-hay!”

Day Three of the School Experiment

So I told you that my oldest daughter has been homeschooled for her first two years of school (K and 1st grade). On Thursday I walked her into her 2nd grade classroom for her first ever day of public school. We’ve had two more since then. She’s had a great experience so far I believe. She likes her teacher. She’s FULL of both questions and details. And is thirsty to know more.

It’s still a “test run” at this time. We’re not sure if she’ll stay in school or go back to home schooling. There are a lot of factors being weighed and considered. And on top of all that a lot of prayers for wisdom being sent up.

David Crowder :: Remedy Club Tour

I’ve not been to a ton of concerts. More than some, but lots less than some of my friends. But I can say that a David Crowder Band concert is amazing to attend. He’s such a showman. He knows how to entertain. But he also knows how to bring you into the presence of the Lord

DCB* is about to release a new CD from their Remedy Tour that has two handfuls of new songs in a live format. I’ll be getting it. You should too.

You can click “LISTEN” above and get a few samples of the songs. There is also a DVD if you like.

100 Pushups at once. Do it with me?

Since I’ve moved from Clinton I’ve not been to the gym once. Now I didn’t go every day anyhow, but it’s now August and I’ve not been once in 2008. Ouch. Thankfully I’ve not exploded in weight with all the nice places to eat in Oxford. But I saw the One Hundred Pushups challenge and thought it’d be worth a try. Coupled with my desire to run a half marathon in December, we’ll see how it goes.

This program says it can take you from no matter where you are in your pushup expertise and get you to doing ONE HUNDRED pushed all at the SAME TIME in six weeks. Wow. Sounds exciting. Anyone want to do it with me?

Two Cover Tuesday

I have found recently some good songs covered by other artists on YouTube. Some that I thought I had to share. But there were a lot. So why not make it a weekly thing? Throw a few out now and then. So here are the first two cover songs for Two Cover Tuesday.

The first one is from Travis. They are a Scottish band that is quite good. But he goes in a totally different direction with his song choice. Probably sounds much better than the original one, to be honest.

Another accoustic version of a song. Again, totally different types of artists when you compare the Plain White T’s and Rihanna.

An early August bullet list

I think I tend to sometimes write bullet lists when I’ve not posted in a while. Or when I have a lot of scattered thoughts.

  • December 6th is the St. Jude [Half] Marathon. I think I’m going to give it a go. I’ve seen many people running lately that have impressed me. I know I can do it. And I hope to invite friends to do it with me.
  • I’ve added a handful of new plugins to the site. Might not be things you see much evidence of on the front end. But overall, helpful additions I think.
  • In the last six months I’ve watched the first three seasons of The Office. The Wife is hooked. Now we’re plowing through S4. Oh, and Hulu rocks!
  • SEC Football practice started this week. How awesome is that?
  • I’ve found tons of cover songs accidntally on YouTube. I’ll start posting a few each week. We’ll see how you like them.
  • I have some friends who had some old Canon lenses they let me borrow to use with my new [lensless] Canon 40D. Now I need a CF card. I plan to make some purchases this week. I’m excited.
  • We met some more neighbors tonight. It was good.
  • Small groups start soon at church. Much thought needs to happen. And more prayer than that. Should be a good fall.

Late July Bullet List

It’s time for another bullet list:

  • Yesterday I was trying to decide whether to go swimming. And then it rained. Decision made.
  • We needed the rain BADLY. Our backyard had yellow grass.
  • We shopped for school supplies last night. How is it that WalMart was basically out of pencils?
  • I like the way my new Canon 40D feels in my hands. But I have no lens. The catalytic converter is jacked up on my Tahoe. Which comes first?
  • If you’ve not see The Dark Night by now, then you’re jacked up too.
  • I think FoxTrot might be my favorite comic strip ever. Too bad Bill Amend only does it on a weekend basis now.
  • I’m really starting to dig Last.fm again. Lots of good music out there.
  • Things are about to shift gears in a fairly large way I think at church. Looking forward to the (hot) fall semester.
  • The Wife and I are blazing through The Office. I think she laughs more than I do now.
  • Netflix has a distro center in Memphis. That means I can get a 2 day turn around on The Office DVD’s. Suh-weet!
  • The Olympics are near. Very near. I’m excited. And China has a home field advantage. We must prevail.
  • If the U.S. didn’t win. I’d want Costa Rica or Australia to win I think.
  • College Football is very near too. I’d probably watch college football over The Olympics. Tough call depending on the game and the event.
