10 Whole Days

And to think that I started this thinking I’d be really regular with it. Turns out I’ve not been. Sure, I was out of town for 5 days. But what about the other 5? Don’t really have a good answer.

I get up in the mornings, and lately I’ve been getting up later and tireder than normal. Then I don’t get on here from work. Then afterwards I get home and I never get to it. But it’s going to change…alright, it’s going to change!

Of course I’ll still be in and out of town for the summer. Good times. Good times.

But here’s a quick overview of my last handful of days:

  • Went to Panama City Beach for Big Stuf camps. Had a fantastic trip with an entirely new group of kids. It was wierd at first, but still seemed so right. Stuart Hall and Louie Giglio were the stuff! Louie spoke on God’s big picture and global missions. More on that later
  • I think we’ve bought a house. We’ve got a contract on it and all that. It’s a good house. Not perfect though. But something we can start with for sure. Probably end with too unless we get rich somehow.
  • I have an MP3 player now. I guess it’s really a digital audio player because it plays more than mp3’s. But it’s given me some issues. But I think they’re resolved. Better happen soon or my 30 days take back guarantee at Circuit City might expire.
  • I want to start watching LOSTfrom ABC. Really wanted to watch it when it started, but 7pm on Wednesdays prevented that. I saw Episode 2 the other night. Caught Ep 3 from the internet. Now I just gotta keep up. By the same guy who does Alias. So it’s weird/cool sorta stuff.
  • I have a CDL again. Shhhh. Don’t tell anyone. If you don’t know what that is, good! I want to lose it now.
  • Dad’s coming in tonight. Should be an interesting weekend.

Anyway, that’s a quick smorgasboard. But I aim and intend to be much more frequent with this. Too bad no one knows about it just yet. But I need to get a new theme to this one as well. Shouldn’t be too hard or bad. I’ve got a few free themes ready to upload and tweak at a moments notice. But it will come in due time.

Suggest a website that you think your readers would enjoy visiting.

The Joshua Project. It is pretty indepth. Has tons of information about people groups that have been unreached by the gospel of Christ.

Tourney Champs

After not being assured of a spot in the Tournament to being with, and then some things falling just right for us we go on and win the darn thing. Yes, we were the #7 seed and zoom through the tournament with a 4-0 record. Not a single loss. Everyother team had two losses. And we beat our rival Mississippi Rebels in the Championship game. They thought the game was theirs. They had beaten us 4 times this year already and thought #5 was in their pocket.

But with pitching that was better than normal. Bats that found the holes better than any other weekend this year. And a grit and determination that was quite impressive…we brought home the trophey.

Now the team travels to Coral Gables to play in the Miami Regional. Tough. Not easy at all. Though Miami has lost their last 6 games. But if we make it out of there we match up with the Nebraska regional. They’re a #2 National Seed. Uh-Oh.

What job would you definitely not want to have?

To work at Fred’s Dollar Store. For some reason that store is always depressing to me. Seems to suck the life out of me.

Soup
Oprah calls and wants you to appear on her show. What would that day’s show be about?

Surprising people with a new home built by the people on Extreme Makeover Home Edition. Either that or a panel of people who don’t really like Oprah but still find theirselves watching it now and then by mistake.

Salad
Name 3 vegetables that you eat on a regular basis.

Potatos, brocolli, lettuce

If you were commissioned to rename your hometown, what would you call it?

Adultryville? No, that wouldn’t be nice.

Dessert
If you had a personal assistant, what kind of tasks would you have them to do?

Make me lots and lots of money so I could give it away.

Take That!, Tigers

After getting into the tournament by the skin of their teeth, Mississippi State really stuck it to rival baseball team LSU in the first round of the SEC Tourney. Many people thought we didn’t deserve to be there. Many people had some convincing arguments. But with a little (or a lot) of help the last weekend of regular SEC play, we are the 7th seed.

After besting LSU, we get to play South Carolina today at 5. Here’s to hoping we can keep it up. The bats need to come alive to help out the pitching. This team has talent. It’s young too. Many people say we need a different coach. Ours used to be the best, they say, but now he’s only good. I’m not so sure, but I think there might be a small twist of truth in there.

Brakes

After running around Jackson yesterday for a few errands in a hurry (maybe that is an important word) I picked up my last item and was headed home. But at a stop sign just before getting on the Interstate I noticed the brake pedal went much lower than normal. Hmmm. So I make it up on the Interstate and think that I’ll need to get that checked out the next morning.

So I’m zooming through the mid afternoon traffic and decide I better test the brakes before I really get into a NEED sort of situation. So I just slowly press them..and press and press. Uh oh! So I need to pull over. The brakes are working, but minimally. So I’m thinking my trip home will be about 30 min through some other roads instead of 15 on the Interstate. Soon becomes apparent that I’m not making it home…I’ll end up hitting something.

So I have to pull over in the heart of JackTown and call for help. I was asking for any hints of a garrage on State Street that would do brake work that late in the afternoon. Thankfully Adam comes to tow me in on one of those car dollies. But hindsight tells me that since I was right there on State street, I could have left the car there, it would be stolen, the thief would have no brakes and wreck, then I’d get a new car! How awesome would that be?

But now I get to see how much reparing brakes on my hoopty ride will cost. Might determine that a new car is the order of business. But have you ever been going down I-55 with traffic all around and realized that your braking power is VERY minimal. NOT a good feeling.

The Physical

Because of craziness revolving around commercial drivers’ licenses and new restrictions and hoops you have to jump through….for me to be able to drive a church bus I now need to take a new test AND get a physical.

Now I’ve not been to the doctor in quite a while. Can’t really remember the last visit. Back in Amory, if I was sick, I’d call a doctor friend and he’d call me in some meds at the pharmacy. And I’m thinking I’ve only had a physical done once before when I was a kid for my dad’s insurance or something. And I had to do one of those “turn your head and cough” deals. Really wasn’t looking forward to something like that.

But I did run into a snag. It was w/ my bloodpressure. They had to check it a few times to slip under what was allowable. Maybe it was lack of exercise lately. Maybe it was lack of sleep. Or too many cookies. Or mabye it’s hereditary. My dad has high blood pressure. Used to (might still) take meds for it. So I’ll have to keep an eye on it. My mom always tries to scare me, or warn me or something. She calls high blood pressure the “silent killer” because it can unknowingly kill you slowly or something like that. I’ll have to research it.

Sleep

When I was young, I never really slept that late. But I knew tons of people who did. Of course I never wanted to really get up for school. But on Saturdays, days it was allowed to sleep late because of no school or anything…I’d always wake up too early. I had friends who’d sleep forever. I’d go stay at my dad’s house and my step sisters and their friends would sleep til lunch on the weekends. I really couldn’t do that…until I got on up in high school.

Then I crafted the ability to sleep til 10 or so. If I really, really tried I could make it to 11. I think this was from years of staying up late. Or maybe puberty had something to do with it.

My first summer after working at Camp Lake Stephens I slept for what my mom said seemed like 14 hours a day. That was an exageration, but it was because of very poor sleep and time management habits the last month of the summer. So I had LOTS of catching up to do. But after that it was still rare for me to ever sleep past 10.

As a single person living on my own, I could get some hours under the cover. But my “going to bed” habits weren’t so good either. I’d go to bed, stare at the ceiling, then get back up and stay way until 2 or so. Then be dead the next morning. Getting married cured this. Went to bed at a decent time, got up at a decent time. But still got to (for me) sleep in on Saturday or days off. But with a child, sleeping late disappeared. I can honestly say that I’ve maybe slept til or past 9am only 2 or 3 times in the last 4 years.

Honestly. But not because I have not wanted to. But my daughter calls for me if it gets past 8am. “Daddy……DAddy…DADDY!…can I get up now? Is it time for breakfast?” Over and over and over. But I don’t mind it.

But lately something weird has been happening. Although I still get up at the same time daily (anywhere from 7 to 8am on average) I’ve been staying up later. Past 1am very regulary. Even close to 2am a few nights a week. Not sure why. I’ll be a little tired the next day. But not zonked. I want to get it back “in line”. But my body either doesn’t need as much sleep now, or it will hit me like a ton of bricks pretty soon.

We’ll see.

Feast Number Thirty Two

Feast Thirty-Two

Appetizer – What is one quality you really admire about yourself?
That I’m pretty easy going. Sometimes that can be a downfall as well though.

Soup – What kind of shampoo and conditioner do you use?
Whatever is in the shower. Maybe I should go pick out some for myself. But usually it’s whatever The Wife has put in there.

Salad – Describe your favorite movie scene. You know, the one that just gets to you every time you watch it.
This is really lame, but it’s at the end of Homeward Bound. When the cat Sassy and dog Chance finally make it home to their kids. Hope and Jamie, the boy and girl who belong to those two animals are so very happy. But Peter, their older brother is looking for Shadow, the older golden retriever. But he just doesn’t come over the small hill. Chance and Sassy had left Shadow in a huge mud pit over by the train tracks because Shadow couldn’t get out. Chance tried and tried, but Shadow told Chance to leave him…get back to the family. They reluctantly did..

Peter becomes really discouraged. “He was just too old!” he says with disdain. His dad tries to comfort him with a side hug. “He was just to old…” Peter says through watery eyes.

Then you hear it. A muffled bark. A glace over the shoulder by Peter..you see a glimmer of hope. His mom gives an “Aw shucks” look at the pain she knows her boy is going through. Then we hear it again. That IS a bark. Look! There he is! Here comes Shadow limping up the hill, not doing so well, but with a doggy smile accross his old face. “SHADOW!!!” Peter screams and rushes to him. “Peter, my boy! I’ve missed you so much, Peter. I love you so much!” Shadow keeps saying over and over.

Man…it get’s me evertime. Tears flow.

Main Course – If you were a veggie, which one would you be, and why?

Dessert – If you could take a weekend trip within 100 miles of your current residence, where would you like to go?
No stinking clue.
