Five Score & Seven Years Ago

I remember way back in the day when I was a part of a youth ministry email list, there was someone on there complaining about how Interlinc would include some really good and some really crappy stuff in their shipments. One of the “crappy” examples was a band called Relient K. I’d not heard them, but this guy went on and on about how they were a waste and a sorry excuse for the music industry.
A few years later I hear “Sadie Hawkins Dance” and thought it was catchy…and realize it’s this Relient K band. I keep up with them. They have some catchy songs. Some crafty lyrics. And then when “Mmhmm” came out, I was really surprised. These guys had crafty talent and then they had some actual skill too.

Yesterday their lasted came out. Relient K’s “Five Score & Seven Years Ago”. I’m digging it. I’m still listening to it w/ the “checking it out” feel. But I can tell I’m going to like it a lot. These guys are putting out great music w/ crafty lyrics. Yes, I recommend them!

Dogs are SEC West Champs!

We were picked 4th in the West before the season. And we started the SEC season behind the Eight Ball. But we didn’t quit. And our senior who had to sit the first half of the only got to play starting in January. But we scrapped. We fought. We lost when it was inconvenient to lose….but so did everyone else.

But today, w/ Bama on our home court we spanked them. Spanked them HARD! And now we are the champs. Sure, we have to “share” it with UMiss…but we win the tie breaker and are the #1 seed in the SEC Tourney.

All this means that next Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday….I’m worthless in the afternoons/evenings

Yup, it’s the Flu…

So our girls go to the doctor yesterday. One had been running a fever and aquired a stuffy nose. The other all of a sudden seemed sick yesterday (after sucking on her sister’s toothbrush the night before). So we made a doctor’s appointment.

Verdict: FLU.

Good times, huh?

My Old Blogging Days

Last night I was going over somethings on the internet and came across some really, really old stuff. Some of my blog when I first started it back in 2003.  I was like, “Wow, four years almost.” Of course I’ve had my times to take off here and there. But it was good to go back and re-read a lot of that old stuff. Makes me wish I’d blogged more way back then so I could get a glimps of exactly what I was thinking and doing.

Also makes me wish I could recapture  some of that. I didn’t type w/ a perceived “it has to be this way so whoever will like it”. I just typed. But for some reason, I think I’ve inadvertently allowed that to happen. Like I think it’s gotta be impressive or impactful. But it doesn’t. It’s just gotta be me.

I also used to be at a different domain name. And for whatever reasons….that old domain name calls back to me sometimes. And I can’t help but think of what it might be like to move things back to statedog.com. Any value in that? Either one that is better? Or is it just ‘pick a place and make it your home!”?

Lazy Sunday afternoon

All is quiet around the house right now. The Wife is at the gym. And both girls are taking an afternoon nap. I’ve reviewed what we’re going over tonight for Youth (first chapter of Daniel) and now I’m just wondering what all needs to be done or changed or attended to.

  • Our front door is always locked from the outside. Whether it is in the locked postion or not, it’s locked. I need to try and fix that.
  • Pay on a bill from where my daughter smacked her head on our tile floor and had to get a CT Scan. It hurt her a lot. And the bill will sting too.
  • Put up the last part of the swingset in the back yard. We got it last year. It said, “Build and Play in One Day!” They were very bad liars.
  • Read some books and not pick up more. I need to focus on about 3 book or so, and not try to read 18 at once.
  • Reconnect to some people. It’s not a “relationships gone bad” sort of thing. Just friendships that have gone unattended and need to be fertalized again.

Fridays Feast #132

Appetizer
Where on your body do you have a scar, and what caused it?

On my forehead is a scar from a dog bite. I was w/ my mom at a friends house eating lunch. Dropped my knapkin. I reached down to pick it up. But the dog that lived there thought that whatever fell on the ground was his. So he bit me for trying to take his knapkin.

Soup
What is something that has happened to you that you would consider a miracle?

Salad
Name a television personality who really gets on your nerves.

The lady from that The Nanny tv show. Fran something.

Main Course
What was a funny word you said as a child (such as “pasketti” for “spaghetti”)?
I said “Mac” for “daddy”

Dessert
Fill in the blank: I have always thought ______ was ______.

Cheescake was nothing like cheese or cake.

Hanging w/ the girls.

This morning The Wife went to visit her dad in the hospital. It’s three hours away. So I’m here with the kiddos chillin. Nothing been going on today so far. We had breakfast. Played outside. They rode bikes and trikes. Played a little soccer. And had a big lunch of PB&J.

Ella is napping right now and I think Addie and I are about to play some board games. But we gotta fill the afternoon up with some good times. Not sure what that will be yet, but it will be fun to hang w/ the girls. Maybe go to the park or get some ice cream or go to a special restaurant. (Remember, special for a 5 and 2 year old can be just about anything)

Favorite Thing About Church

We just began a new service in our church w/in the last month. It’s not in anyway traditional like the other two services.  Tomorrow will be the fifth time it’s ever occurred. Our five year old has been going, seeming to like it. And she doesn’t leave the service when it’s time for the little kids to go to their own room. She says she wants to stay in there w/ everyone else.

But last Sunday after church she asked me, “Dad, you know what my favorite thing about church is? You know what my favorite part is?”

I was expecting something about the music or people she sees in there or that they have a table w/ donuts and cookies….something like that.

“Dad, it’s when Mom goes and gets Ella from the nursery and she runs up to me all excited and hugs me for a whole minute!”              I’m glad these girls love each other!

24 and Jack Bauer

I remember watching 24 when it first came on. I bought the hype. But after a couple of episodes I missed a week or two. And there was no way I could catch up. I got left in the dust as America kept up w/ Jack Bauer and his exploits. I’d hear about it now and then and how great it was, but I never really knew the details.

This past summer I got tired of hearing how 24 was better than LOST, so borrowed Season One from a friend and really got into it. A couple of weekends ago I finished Season Two. And just today I started Season Three.

Is it better than LOST, I’m not ready to say yes or no. But it might be just as good. LOST has been struggling lately to maintain some sort of consistent plotline. Desmond’s flashback? Or was it time travel? Or was it unconsciousness? Who knows.

But watch 24 on DVD can be addictive…no doubt. So I’m trying to institute that I cannot watch any more 24 in a week than I read my Bible. Because as cool as Jack Bauer might be, he’s no Jesus. And I should give Him more time than JB.

Here is an interesting book I came across in Family Christian Bookstore this week: Jack Bauer’s Having A Bad Day.

What does “ht” mean?

Often times when reading other blogs I’d read where someone posted something of interest to them. But they got the info first off from someone else’s blog. At the end they’d say (ht to Rick) or something, meaning they first saw that on Rick’s blog.

But I always wondered what “ht” was. What did it mean to give someone an ht? I tried googling it. I tried looking it up in Answers.com and Wikipedia and even the Urban Dictionary. None worked.

Then a friend said that to give someone an ht was either “hyper text” or “hyper threading”. Neither made sense. “Hey, I got heard this cool story over on Tony’s blog. (HYPER THREAD to Tony!)” See, doesn’t make sense.

BUT, I finally found out. It means a Hat Tip. Like to tip your hat to someone as a means of acknowledgement or recognition. So, for anyone who wonderd what ht means, now you know it means a Hat Tip.
